Research and Education on Information, Innovation and ICT Law

CLI, the Centre for Law and Internet, is a leading Dutch knowledge institute focusing on information, innovation and ICT law. The Centre aims to foster the study of the social, cultural and economic impact of information technology, in particular the Internet.

Background and activities

CLI was established in 1984 as the Computer/Law Institute. It organizes conferences, seminars and guest lectures, carries out interdisciplinary research in collaboration with the Network Institute of the VU University Amsterdam http://www.networkinstitute.org/, works together with internationally renowned scholars and visiting researchers, offers policy advice and has developed a leading master programme in the area of information, innovation and ICT law. The Centre’s teaching activities have expanded over the years to encompass internet governance, freedom of (online) expression, cybercrime, privacy and security, e-commerce, copyright and industrial property and international private law.
